Live, raw, organic, gluten-free snacks



- Who has kids and prepares their lunch for them and feel they are short-changed on healthy snack options?

Conscious of what you put on your skin? Well you should be!

Your skin is your first and largest defense mechanism from the outside world!

I know we see commercials for one skin care after another coming out claiming to do miracles.  It can be quite overwhelming and frankly, unimpressive. 

Over the years, I have tried a few skin care lines.  I by no means am an expert of skin care but what I do know is that the ingredients within most skin care, especially anti-aging serums, are not good for the body.  A little anatomy 101 will teach you that it is a fact that we have seven defense mechanisms that prevent us from getting sick. The first and biggest mechanism is the skin.  Whether we chose to believe it or not, everything that you put on your skin is absorbed.
 
A few examples:
1.  Birth control patch - placed on the body and the hormones are absorbed in through the skin and prevents pregnancy. 
2.  Nicotine patch - placed on the body to emit small amounts of nicotine into the body to prevent smoking a cigarette. 

 
My Personal view of "Healthy"skin care:  

            Level 1: “Healthy” because it helps to lessen wrinkles.  This can have all sorts of chemically created elements that alter cells enhancing collagen release, enhancing elasticity, etc.  Cells now have a alteration that can lead to a mutation – autoimmune issues, cancer, dependency, etc.  

            Level 2:  Another level of healthy is those that use antioxidants and botanical to accomplish the anti-aging appeal.  The downfall of a lot of these is the fact that those botanicals and antioxidant ingredients often make up very little of the actual serum and the stabilizers, fillers and preservatives are used for the rest.  Many of these stabilizers, fillers and particularly preservatives, would never be consumed typically.  Remember, it all is absorbed.

            Level 3:  The top level are products that ONLY use botanicals, antioxidants, essential oils and natural preservatives (things you could eat).  These are ingredients that rather than alter the cells and enzymes to help with anti-aging, elasticity, moisture control, etc, it nourishes the body and improves the “health” of the cells and enzymes. Improving the health means better production.

Why don’t skin care companies take the approach of using natural ingredients if they know they are out there and work as well?  As I do not feel I am in a position to speak for all, I will only make generalizations.  A lot of it comes down to the dollar.  Less filler and preservative means more essential ingredients- hence more expensive and less of a profit margin.  Preservatives and fillers can be created in masses.  Antioxidants, botanicals and essential oils come specifically from fruits, vegetables and plants.  Environmental conditions can put companies at the mercy of mother nature.  A bad season can yield a low to no production of one ingredient or another.  Thus, synthetic came about to prevent this issue and to allow for mass production.        

Well, I am writing to share of a product line that has not taken the easy route.  As many of you know and some may not, Jordan Rubin sacrifices nothing when it comes to his health.  To take a look in his pantry or cabinets is like another world.  You would not recognize any of the products most likely.  So, when he decides to produce something, it is only something he himself would use or consume.

My EXPERIENCE WITH THE PRODUCTS:
I have had the privilege of using the products prior to launch and I have definitely fallen in love with them.  I have been on the products for six weeks and truly love the feel and look it has brought to my face.  It looks very even in tone.  I honestly can say it looks almost as if I have just recently had a facial treatment giving a very youthful tone and color to my face.  At this point, I have not put on any make-up for four days other than lipstick and mascara.  I am really trying to express to you just how good this stuff has been for me. I LOVE IT! 

My personal favorites:  Eye cream, tonor and exfoliator.

What are we doing to ourselves!

This past week I had a dear friend from college just be diagnosed with breast cancer.  She is only 33. I know to you reading this it is “someone else” and not yourself or even someone you personally know, but one day it will effect your personally in one way or the other.  The latest cancer statistics at this moment going by our current environment, food supply and inheritance that we have passed on is 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will contract cancer in their lifetime. 



I see this personal experience as a real eye-opener on several levels.  For one, I know we can think it is not going to happen to me or that it will not happen until I am older.  Well, friend, I hate to tell you but being diagnosed with cancer even at the age of 65, 70 or 80 does not come any easier than if it was at 33.  Secondly, whatever you are aspiring to do or become, go for it!  You never know what the next day is going to bring.  Do you ever think about that sometimes?  Each day is a total mystery.  Something wonderful could happen just as equally as something negative.  Lastly, it is our responsibility to do all we can to avoid being one of these statistics! 



I tell my children all the time, “Everything we do today effects our tomorrow”.  When I say this to them, I am speaking of all aspects such as academics, food consumption, sports, moral choices, friendships and so on.  Then it hit me one day.  The same goes for me!  All those times I had told myself, this really is not good for me and blow it off and think I will fix it tomorrow – well – what if tomorrow is the day I will reap what I have sown?    



Cancer is hitting younger and younger.  Why is that?  Definitely life choices play a factor but I believe environmental factors play a huge role as those effect our food consumption.  I know over the years research has exposed more and more “shady”, unethical and dangerous aspects of our food and water supply that we are so dependent on leaving us very little choice.  If there was no grocery store tomorrow, what would you do?  Do you realize that each grocery store has about three days worth of food to supply the "regulars" that frequent that store?  I think food and water has become such a luxury item for us here that we almost forget that it is a true need to live and we think it is a never ending commodity. 



Just yesterday I watched a documentary on our honey bees.  I am not sure if you know, but they are dying off.  Bee keepers are showing an approximate drop of about 30% of their bees and this has been increasing the past several years.  Do you realize what this would mean for the food supply?  This little bee is one of the MAJOR keys to our survival.  No bee, no pollination, no plant life.  So what was found to be one of the culprits?  An insecticide called neonicotinoid.  This is used to coat the corn seeds before being planted into the ground.  This insecticide basically paralizes the bees and kills them.  So, while we already question what insecticides, pesticides and fungicides are doing to us on a personal level, what are we doing to our entire environment?  What it showing in JUST the bee colony is what is known as colony collapse disorder.  Industrial agriculture can only survive with the honey bee.  The problem is, honey bees cannot survive in the way we have now developed industrial agriculture.  Whether we like it or not, we are still dependent on our environment and  agriculture does not grow just because we plant a seed!



Those of you who are at all familiar with this blog know my husband and I have been involved with Beyond Organic, a company whose main goals are offering a safe food option for your beef and dairy products as well as maintaining a sustainable environment.  We have just made our first expansion of products and many others to come as we continue to grow.  Beyond Organic is not only of benefit for you from a health standpoint, but I think even bigger, as a way to ensure the ecosystem survives!  I just don’t think we understand the BIG picture and how we are all connected.  It is up to us to demand a change in how are foods are grown and processed.  I believe this is the ultimate goal of Beyond Organic, developed by founder, Jordan Rubin, a health advocate for the past 18 years.  Making these, I believe, imparative changes to our diets and agriculture production will help us all in so many ways such as less healthcare costs, healthier, more productive lives and a sustainable environment for future generations to come.  We, one voice at a time, have to be the ones to do it and demand it! 


Beyond Organic and its methods are done in such a way to ensure the environment is thriving and becoming stronger.  The way the dairy cattle and bulls graze naturally fertilizes the ground for optimum mineral production and forage growth.  This not only helps the environment, but also creates the most nourishing nutrient dense dairy and beef, often what is missing in conventional cattle farms.  The land is often lacking if not desaturated all together of the vitamins and minerals needed in the soils causing either forage not to grow at all or forage that has no nutrient content.  It is like us eating white bread- basically fluffy air. 



I hope you will just think for a moment of what I have written here.  My eyes were already open to how important what we consume is but this has reminded me once again.  The only way we can help to make a difference is to actually take the steps to make the changes and be supportive of farms such as Beyond Organic as well as other local farms to you.  Things will change as consumer demand does.  Help be a part of it!  We are the only ones to blame for the direction we are headed.

Why should we be eating rather than drinking our Minerals?

The Beyond Organic springs are located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia.  The springs are surrounded by nothing but forest, no threat of run off from anything surrounding the springs, which is why the springs have such a great TDS (total dissolved solids) of 4.  The land is certified Organic.  For those who have no idea what that means,let me give you an idea of what samples from seven leading brands came back with for their scores.  They ranged from 18-247 and that is after the purification process.  The springs are measuring at a 4 before any sort of purification process.  Jordan had it tested more than once as he did not believe it.  
-  Lowest TDS (Total dissolved solids) meaning the most H2O and the least of anything else
 - Flowing from 130 certified organic acres
 - Highest H2O equals most oxygen transporting through body (blood is 92% water where oxygen is transported)
 - H2O Transports nutrients to the cell and removes waste from the cells
So why pure water?  A few things to share about the water.  There is a lot of talk about alkaline water or in other words, mineral water.  Jordan’s feeling regarding water is the purer it is, the better.  There are two kinds of minerals, organic and inorganic.  Organic is what your body is ready to and can easily absorb.  An inorganic mineral, from rock, is not easily digested and most is lost. 
Example:  A growing plant (lets talk about whole grains which provides manganese) converts the inorganic minerals from the soils to a useful organic mineral within the whole grain. When an organic mineral enters the stomach it attaches itself to a specific protein-molecule in order to be absorbed, and then it gains access to the tissue sites where it is needed. Once a plant mineral is absorbed within the body, it is utilized for composing body fluids, forming blood and bone cells, and the maintainence of healthy nerve transmission
Without a healthy organic mineral balance inside and outside the cells, the body will began to spasm, twitch and cramp, eventually deteriorating eventually completely failing if you do not get these.  They are not a luxury item.  Minerals are small components but essential ones.  There are a few inorganic minerals (ones you cannot get from foods but rather from salt itself being added to the food).
The body prefers the richest source of minerals, from foods instead of the hard-to-absorb inorganic minerals from water. Even if human tissue suddenly developed the ability to absorb inorganic minerals from tap water, it would take an enormous amount of water to supply the bare minimal mineral quantities for proper life functions through water alone.
